Why Proper Care Matters
The Freestyle is designed to be portable, which means it’s more likely to be moved, handled, and used in different environments (living room, bedroom, outdoor patio, etc.). Dust, fingerprints, and blocked airflow can reduce picture clarity, affect Auto Focus/Auto Keystone performance, and increase the risk of overheating. A simple care routine keeps image quality consistent and helps the projector run quietly and reliably.
1) Before You Clean Anything
Power Down Safely
-
Turn the projector off.
-
Disconnect the power source (wall adapter, power bank, or other supply).
-
Let the projector cool down for 10–15 minutes before touching the lens or vents.
Choose a Clean Workspace
-
Place the projector on a stable, soft surface (like a clean microfiber towel) to prevent scratches.
-
Wash and dry your hands to avoid transferring oils.
Recommended Tools
-
Dry microfiber cloth (lens-safe)
-
Soft, clean brush (camera/lens brush or very soft paintbrush)
-
Cotton swabs (for edges and tight areas)
-
Optional: air blower (hand-squeezed, camera-style)
Avoid: paper towels, tissues, rough cloth, abrasive sponges.
2) Cleaning the Lens (Sharpness Starts Here)

When to Clean the Lens
Clean the lens only when needed (visible smudges, fingerprints, or haze). Over-cleaning can cause micro-scratches over time.
Step-by-Step: Lens Cleaning
-
Remove loose dust first
-
Use a soft brush or a hand air blower.
-
This prevents dust from rubbing against the lens during wiping.
-
-
Wipe gently with a microfiber cloth
-
Use light pressure and small circular motions from the center outward.
-
If the smudge persists, breathe lightly on the lens to create minimal moisture, then wipe again with microfiber.
-
-
Check the lens under light
-
Tilt the projector slightly and inspect for streaks or remaining particles.
-
Repeat gently if needed.
-
Important Lens “Don’ts”
-
Do not spray water or any liquid directly onto the lens.
-
Do not use glass cleaner, window cleaner, soap, detergent, or cleaning powders.
-
Do not use solvents such as alcohol, benzene, ammonia, or thinner.
-
Do not press hard—light pressure is enough.
3) Cleaning the Body and Ports (Keep It Looking New)
Exterior Cleaning
-
Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe the body.
-
For stubborn marks:
-
Very lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with clean water.
-
Wipe the area gently.
-
Immediately follow with a dry microfiber cloth.
-
Ports and Crevices
-
Use a dry soft brush to sweep dust from:
-
Micro HDMI port area
-
USB/power port area
-
Button/edge seams
-
-
If dust is packed in tight corners, use a cotton swab dry (no liquid).
Tip: Keep caps and covers clean too. Dirty accessories often reintroduce dust.
4) Ventilation and Overheating Prevention
Maintain Clear Airflow
Projectors rely on airflow for cooling. Blocking vents traps heat and can cause:
-
Sudden dimming (thermal protection)
-
Fan noise increase
-
Temporary shutdown
-
Long-term component stress
Clearance Rule (Practical Setup)
-
Avoid placing the projector inside enclosed cabinets or tight shelves.
-
In enclosed spaces, keep about 50 cm (19 inches) of clearance around the intake and exhaust vents.
Keep Vents Dust-Free
Dust buildup in vents reduces airflow and makes the fan work harder.
Safe vent cleaning routine:
-
Turn off, unplug, and cool the projector.
-
Use a soft brush to gently sweep the vent openings.
-
If using a hand air blower:
-
Use short bursts from a small distance.
-
Do not force air aggressively into the projector.
-
Avoid: vacuum nozzles pressed against vents (static risk), wet cloth near vents, or inserting objects into vent slots.
Common Ventilation Mistakes to Avoid
-
Using the projector on thick blankets, soft beds, or pillows that cover airflow paths
-
Setting it flush against a wall with vents facing the surface
-
Letting cables or décor items drape over vent openings
-
Using it near smoke, heavy cooking fumes, or dusty construction areas
5) Storage and Transport (Portable, But Still Precision Hardware)
Always Use the Lens Cap When Not in Use
Covering the lens helps prevent:
-
Scratches
-
Fingerprints
-
Dust on the lens and distance sensor
Keeping the distance sensor clean is especially important because contamination can interfere with focus and keystone performance.
Short-Term Storage (Daily/Weekly)
-
Store in a dry, clean area away from direct sunlight.
-
Keep away from kitchens, humid corners, and dusty windowsills.
-
Ensure it’s fully cool before placing it in a bag or case.
Long-Term Storage (Weeks/Months)
-
Clean the lens and body first.
-
Attach the lens cap.
-
Coil cables loosely (avoid tight bends near connectors).
-
Store the projector in:
-
A padded case, or
-
The original box with protective inserts
-
-
Choose a storage spot that is:
-
Cool and dry
-
Free from insects and moisture
-
Away from heavy objects that could crush the case
-
Outdoor Use Storage Tips
If you use The Freestyle outdoors:
-
Let it acclimate and dry before storing if there’s humidity or dew.
-
Never store it while damp—wipe exterior dry and let it air out in a clean indoor space.
-
Keep it away from sand and fine dust; these particles can scratch the lens easily.
6) Quick “Do and Don’t” Checklist
Do
-
Use a dry microfiber cloth for routine cleaning
-
Remove dust with a brush/blower before wiping the lens
-
Keep vents unobstructed and allow generous clearance
-
Use the lens cap when not projecting
-
Store in a padded case or original packaging for travel
Don’t
-
Spray liquids directly onto the projector or lens
-
Use alcohol, ammonia, benzene, thinner, or abrasive cleaners
-
Block intake/exhaust vents (especially on soft surfaces)
-
Insert tools or cotton swabs into vent holes
-
Store the projector in humid or hot places (near windows, cars, heaters)
7) When Cleaning Isn’t Enough
Stop cleaning and consider professional service if you notice:
-
Persistent blurry image even after lens cleaning and refocusing
-
Unusual fan noise that doesn’t improve after vent dusting
-
Frequent overheating warnings or shutdowns
-
Visible internal dust behind the lens (do not disassemble)
